‍ ‍Golden Hour photography at Topsmead State Park.

On Friday evening after supper, Tommy, Jazzy and I decided to go do a photoshoot at Topsmead State Park. Tommy and I had never been there, but Jazzy had and suggested it as a cool place to take photos.

As soon as we parked I noticed that the sun was already headed for the horizon, and I began walking quickly up the trail to see what the light was going to be like around the house that is there.

Upon reaching the house, I was initially disappointed to see that the sun was setting behind the house. Still, I made some photos of Tommy standing in the doorway in the event that we weren’t going to find anything else in the way of scenery.

But when we started around the side of the house, there was the sunlight in all of it’s Golden Hour glory. My excitement skyrocketed, and I started shooting as Tommy stood by the house and among the flowers.

As the light began to fade from the side of the house we moved to the back, and that is where the real Golden Hour magic was happening. There was a big gnarly tree that was just begging to be in the photos, and a little covered back entrance where the sunlight shown in a focused beam, leaving a lot of shadow around it.

I was hyper with excitement, and would have shot for hours, but the Sun eventually got too low to reach the back of the house, so we resigned ourselves to watching it set. There was a lovely Moon in the sky too, which added to the magic.

It was an incredible hour or so of photography and hanging out with Tommy and Jazzy.
